Here’s to finishing the house projects in 2009!

January 12, 2009

Ok, the reality is that you are NEVER done with your house projects, but we’ll make a good attempt.

Now that the busy holidays are over, I’m back to working 10-hour days on the weekends–especially in preparation for our guests who are arriving for the Inauguration.

The plumber came back now that we have the proper equipment (we had to buy chrome water supply lines for the clawfoot tub.  As it turned out, the plumber was unable to install a chrome waste line because he had installed the rough opening to close to the finished wall, and couldn’t get his wrench in the tight space.  Or at least that is what he said.  Of course, he said he mounted the toilet right–and the next day we had two cups of water on the floor.  a differenct plumber came back the next day and fixed the first plumber’s mistakes.  Still, for now we’ll have to live with a white plastic drain pipe which you can see if you are sitting on the toilet and look behind the back of the tub–in other words, could be worse.

Yesterday I installed the fan/light combo and the lights above the medicine cabinet.  Next, we need to mount the D-shaped shower curtain ring.  All these accessories are in chrome; photos to follow soon.

Laundry room drywall almost done and ready for paint.  What’s a good color for a laundry room in the basement?  White?  Bold colors?

Compared with you–out there  doing incredible things–I live a puny life:  hours are spent on the minutia of hand work.  How can I fill that scratch there?  How much caulk should I squeeze out tto fill this void?  Maybe that’s the Zen of renovation:  losing oneself in minor, yet collectively significant details.
